Title: Rec lake near Holly
Post by: Revtro on August 28, 2018, 04:53:45 PM
Any recommendations for a lake near Holly that allows running on plane, fishing, tubing, etc?  Kids are going up to Whoa Zone Friday and I was thinking of bringing the boat, but Heron is electric only and it looks like Fenton is no wake.

Trust me... Fenton is not "No Wake"

Friday on Fenton should be ok since the kiddies are in school..   The weekends are a zoo.  You could come south to Maceday that is a nice clean lake.

Wait...so I can take the kids tubing on Fenton?  Is this old info from the DNR about it being no-wake?  I love Maceday, but Fenton's real close to Holly Rec Area.

Fished Fenton 3 weeks ago.   Definitely a WAKE Lake.   The Surf boat were out in force.   Have fun.   Should be great this time of year.

I have a Ranger so High Speed does not apply.   I am old so 45 is as fast as I go.  With my blinker on.

I'd never heard of Fenton being no wake?? We rarely went there when I was growing up in Flint because the ramp would be full and you could practically walk across the boats out there some days! Though 'run across the boats' would be more accurate since most of them are buzzing around each other like angry bees... ;D

Revtro, I wonder if you were seeing the no wake for that one narrow part of the lake at Orrs Point including those canals/channels there? I think it is not completely no wake, but instead of the usual 100 feet from shore (or dock ends) it is 200 feet from either shore. Not sure how wide that is?

I haven't been there in forever but I believe there is a 45 mph speed limit. Not sure if it is the entire lake but the people who've been there in modern times would know what the sign says there. Might just be the smaller parts of the lake because I don't think it covers the whole lake.

The weirder rule is that no anchoring on the east side of Case Island all the way across Woodhull Landing and Log Cabin Point - probably to keep less smart people from being run over and swamped by all the crazies running up and down the lake...
