Title: Expelled
Post by: Revtro on April 21, 2008, 02:51:57 PM
Hoping to see Expelled tomorrow night.  I'd be interested to hear thoughts from anyone who sees it.  Not looking to start controversy though.  I'm just interested to see what Ben Stein has to say on the subject.  Looks like a fun flick.

I saw the trailer...Looks good..I have had some pretty heavy debates on Evolution...It's is funny how people will not open their eyes and see that science has never, ever, been able to make something from nothing...The point that Mr Stein is trying to make is why aren't both theories taught in Schools and why are christian scientists being shunned....Let me know how you like the movie. With my schedule I will probably have to wait for the DVD..

Wow! Expelled was amazing.  It's a documentary, but with some entertainment value as you'd expect from Ben Stein.  What struck me was how well they avoided Christian controversy and stuck to a factual scientific discussion throughout the movie.  I've always thought Ben Stein was one of the smartest guys around (since the Win Ben Stein's Money days).  But throughout the movie he interviewed both Intelligent Design and Darwinist scientists who were way smarter than he was.

Basically the movie centers around the academic establishment's unwillingness to explore Intelligent Design as a viable scientific premise.  Anti-ID academia is completely unwilling to allow even well known and respected scientists to ask questions about the possibility of Intelligent Design.  If they do, they are most often disengaged and ostracized from the academic community.  They are often painted as religious nuts when in fact, they are simply following the evidence where it leads.

What struck me most when I saw the movie are the amazing parallels between this subject and the current global climate change discussion.  Evolution has become doctrine and to question it in the academic world is a no-no.  (though it is perhaps the single greatest scientific theory with the most gaping holes of all time)  With the current climate change discussion, I see the same thing developing behind the scenes.  Everyone is getting on board with the belief that there is long term global climate change happening and that man is the cause of it, yet there are many reputable scientists who are asking "is this true and are we causing it?"  Yet we don't hear about them because they dare to challenge the louder scientific community.

Ben Stein, in his movie challenges science to become science again by allowing ALL the questions to be asked, even those that may lead to different answers.  He doesn't push God in the movie, nor is the movie aimed at changing the mind of Darwinists.  The movie is aimed at people with open minds to stand up and challenge academia to engage in the discussion rather than close their ears to anything that challenges their Darwinist beliefs.  Expelled will not change Darwinists minds, but will hopefully encourage Intelligent Design proponents to stand up and challenge the establishment, for if we don't we will end up with whatever the loudest voices push on our society.  I think Expelled is quite frankly groundbreaking and I highly recommend it.

Just my opinion of course.  That's my review.  ;D  Go see it and come give yours.
