Title: Good to be back on the water
Post by: cameraguy on August 11, 2017, 08:07:41 AM
It has been quite some time since I had a boat. This past spring, I ran into (okay I was looking for him to ask about his boat that he had been selling a couple of years earlier) Ralph Blasey from Wonderland Marine West at Outdoorama in Novi. He told me he had a hot deal on a 2008 Ranger Z21 that had just arrived at the store. It is now home with me.

So, DKimmel and I fished LSC Wednesday, August 9. This will be a short report. I hope Dan writes up a more detailed account of our day. He always has entertaining thoughts and observations about his outings.

We started out in Michigan water in around 15'-16' of water. It was not working. I had one bite on a drop shot, which thrilled me as it has been so long since I have been fishing much that I have virtually have no experience with this technique. After that bite though, nothing.

So off we go to Canada. Dan started out by taking me to the cleaners. He whacked them pretty good. I was just standing there getting tan stripes on my feet from my sandals. We moved a few times. By the end of the day, I finally caught a few.

Neither one of us could get anything going on a drop shot. Most of our fish bit Extreme Bass Tackle 4" tubes in color Formula G3. Since I was still using primitive monofilament line, I had to work the tubes aggressively to get a bite.

OK Camera Dude, get you some 10 lb braid with a fluro leader, or just go to 8 lb Sunline fluro :) :) I used to be hard headed about 5 years ago :) :). No hell no I don't like fluro on spinning but it works if the object is to catch fish.  I like be braid with long leader but only if not much wind. If wind all fluro.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to posting more reports.
I did stop at the new Cabelas today and buy a spool of braid and a spool of flourocarbon lines. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get them on a reel in the next year or two.

Oh c'mon... you can do better than get your reels respooled in a year or two...?!? I'll keep pestering you about it!! ;D

Not sure when I'll get caught up on fishing reports...? I have already forgotten quite a bit about them, even the recent ones. Maybe I should record a talking commentary while I fish? I do sometimes talk to myself when I'm out fishing alone anyway.

Thanks!
Ralph Blasey from Wonderland Marine West gave me the rundown on this boat at Outdoorama. I couldn't refuse.
I have wanted a Ranger for a long time. It's a great ride.
