I was told yesterday that side imaging works better in clear water compared to stained or murkey water. The person who told me this had one on his boat for a season and said it worked great in Lake St Clair, but in Lake Erie the imaging was not that clear due to water clarity. He also said that it stated this in the owners manual. I am really considering purchasing one of these units so any imput on this would really help. Thanks
Well. From what I just saw at a demo it really does not bother the image at all. The demo showed a car in a river that could not be seen for a year because of the muddy water. The anglers SI unit was able to pick up the image on the plate to find out who it belonged to. Check it out it has a neet ending. Also several bodies found by anglers also. Hey it also finds fish and there shadows. I don't think a color unit shows what colors are on the fish though.LOL
Thats pretty good in my book.

Check out a factory reps demo for yourself. you'll get a lot of questions answered that are not on the web site.
Water clarity has no effect whatsoever on image quality. Remember, this is sonar and not a camera image. If it's in the owners manual that muddy water affects the image, I'd like to know where because that's definitely not the case.

i ran mine in the st. joe yesterday - it was high and dirty... still worked great.
Dude,
What was your impression after the first use of the SI unit? Where you thrilled or confused? I am just curious what to expect.

i was pretty impressed, it takes a while to get used to what you're looking at because of the perspective. But the basics are pretty easy. I fired it up and immediatley could see ripples in the sand bars, fish, etc... even called a few shots after passing a school of coho on the port side.
its best probably to run it over terrain you know, so you can see what rocks, limbs, weeds etc look like. I ran mine on the idle up the st. joe back to the ramp, could see some limbs, rocks etc... some cool sand-lips in main channel that had fish sitting behind each one..
pretty cool stuff.
I can't wait to get mine, er, ours. Kim worked it out with me. If she gets her new livingroom I get the SI unit. I'm not sure who wins the most that way.(or if it matters) I get to use the livingroom but she is in the back of the boat and will be useing the SI more than me. But I get an SI unit for the boat. YIPPIE!!!!!.
I'll let ya'll know how much I like it .........or not?
