What can you tell me about Lake Allegan? I have a colleague considering buying vacation property on the lake. I told him I hadn't heard a lot about the lake. I checked the MI DNR website to see if they had any stocking or shocking data and I couldn't find anything.
This isn't a hardcore fisherman but he is concerned about water quality. So what can you tell me about the fishery? Is it a major recreation lake? Anything useful I can tell him would be appreciated. Thanks.
First off it is a reservoir so it is not a recreational lake. I have fished it for years. The fishing is good, but lots of little smallmouth and a few largemouth. It's one of my favorite lakes to fish. you do have to be careful of where you go as it is mainly shallow and has a stump or two in it. if he is looking for somewhere to ski and tube this is not the place. I wouldn't swim in it as it is still the kalamazoo river. Hope this helps.
Thanks
