Maybe someone here can confirm my thoughts. I have a '96 50hp evin that is acting up. Saturday, when I came in off the lake my tilt stopped working. When I tried to get the motor started (to trailer the boat), it was dead. No starter, no tilt. Went out again on sunday (planned t/m only trip) not even thinking about turning a key , or testing the tilt. I was thinking I blew the main fuse. Then today after work I had tilt and the motor would've started if I let it. Okay, the fuse must be good. Twice this season my warning lites have cycled thru, but all seemed ok. A couple of times out the motor seemed to be choking a little, like it just wouldn't go wide open. No problems with anything for the other 20 something times out this year. Am i losing what I believe they call a power-pack? Electronic brain? Any feedback is appreciated...
I'd check the ground wire myself and go from there
Sounds like a wire rubbing raw at times somewhere but that is just a guess from me based on some things that happened in the past to me or friends. I had a wire rub bare over the steering wheel bar behind the dash once and it would not let my boat start when it was touching the bare spot. I've seen similar cases with other people in the past too.
Good luck with the solution. These can be really frustrating to diagnose.
Went out today for 7.5 hrs., no issues whatsoever...
That is a weird one but a bad wire somewhere could be the cause if it moves around and sometimes rubs and sometimes doesn't. Whatever is I hope you can figure it out if it doesn't just go away for good. Good luck!
Thanks, Dan...6.5 hrs. on Monday, still o.k. I think i'll address the situation over the winter...
Good luck with that!
