Title: LM Bass fishing near South Haven Michigan.
Post by: keithdog on May 15, 2016, 08:46:01 PM
My first post here so forgive me if it's been brought up before. Can anyone suggest good bodies of water for fishing for LM bass near South Haven Michigan? Small mouth as well.

Try the mouth of the Black River to see if it attracts Lake Michigan smallmouth bass. I don't have any experience there but most of the river mouths attract smallies at least part of the year. The Kalamazoo River in Saugatuck attracts smallies. So does the St. Joe in Benton Harbor.

Paw Paw Lake can be good for largemouth bass though they really kill the weeds most of the time which messes up the fishing. Try docks. You can find old posts about Paw Paw Lake on here if you search.

Some of the small inland lakes within an hour's drive should have some largemouth bass fishing. I don't know which ones have public access but others may know. You can look them up on the MDNR boating access website for DNR ramps. MRBIS: www.mcgi.state.mi.us/mrbis/ (http://www.mcgi.state.mi.us/mrbis/)

Lots of tournament information on the DNR webpage that could give you the lakes frequented by bass targeting anglers.  Good place to start.
