Am I missing something? My new boat came with a 998 mounted in the dash. There was 1 way point left on it from the previous owner. I exported all of my points to an sd card from my 1197 that I left on the old boat. They transferred to the brand new 859 I put on the bow, but when I put the card in the 998 it asks if I want to load navigation data. When I hit the arrow for yes, it says no available navigation data.
I finally sat and entered about 50 in by hand. The next day I went out to enter more and the list was blank. Is there something in settings that I may have turned off, or does it need to go see the repair department at Humminbird?
i'm not sure where in the settings, but make sure its not just set to store waypoints on the SD card. Also, if it has 2 slots, make sure you try the card in both slots, sometimes you can only import from one or the other.
I did try both slots to be sure. I'll have to dig through the settings to see what's going on.
There is a good forum on BBC for HB users. Might want to post the question there.
Is the unit full of old tracks? HB told me that having too many old tracks saved in the unit will slow it down and take up memory. If you are like me you don't erase old tracks very often. I erased all my tracks last year and my 997 did speed up a bit.
Its a sign to buy a new Lowrance.... :D
What is the size SD card u are using? Don't use anything over 2 or 4 GB. I had a similar issue.
There is nothing saved on it. No tracks or waypoints. I'm not sure what size my card is. I will have to look when/if my garage ever gets finished and I can put my boat back in it.
The machines store way points on the internal flash memory guys.
The blank SD cards are there for you to export your NAV data to.
The issue the OP is facing is he probably has the "Screen Shot" tab/menu enabled and no SD card in the unit.
It will say WP#xxx created successfully but will not store it B/C there is no place to the .PNG and .DAT files to be stored on the SD card.
Turning "Screen Shot" off or installing a blank SD Card should resolve the problem.
It is a good idea to export your NAV data to a blank SD Card & maintain a copy on your PC using HumminbirdPC and then you should "Format NAV directories" on the machine, wiping it clean then reinserting teh SD Card after a reboot to reload the waypoints and any saved tracks you want.
RAS :)
Mike, I'd consider SFW an expert (he's a bit of a computer/electronics geek!). Give what he's saying a try and let us know what happens.
I love it when you don't hear back...LOL
No new is usually good news!
Owning 5 'Birds does seem to give an edge also.
:D
So I wonder if that was it and this is resolved? Hope so, and if yes thanks to all of you who offered help. That's what we're here for too and I really appreciate that.

I'm sure it was Dan, we get that Q all the time on BBC.
