I just got the lowrance hds 7 touch which comes with the standard 83/200 kHz transducer, but then I also bought the lss-2 transducer to get the side and down imaging. My question is do I need to mount both transducers, or just the lss-2 transducer? I am using this unit at my console, and will have a lowrance Elite 7 hdi at the bow. ( I know I can't link the two together to share waypoints etc)
Thanks!
You can't link the units?
Not with these 2 devices, The Elite series doesn't link to the HDS series....eventually I will put another HDS unit at the bow, but the new HDS Touch tapped my budget for electronics for this season. :)
You have to mount both....
Thanks ranger fan, that's what I thought!
Clarification?
The lss-2 for the hds unit will give you all sonar types: down, side, and traditional. Because you can't link the 2 head units, you'll have to mount the elite ducer on the trolling motor or back of the boat to see any sonar info on that unit.

Correct. You do not have to mount both of the HDS transducers, just the LSS2 unit you bought.
Ok good! I'm glad...I really didn't want to put more holes in the back of my boat! Doug I know you had told me that, but the installation guide was confusing made it sound like I needed both... Thanks guys!
If you find that the LSS2 xducer doesn't perform well while at speed, you may want to install a 2nd xducer to shoot thru the hull. Most of us with Humminbird imagers have done so and still have full depth/sonar functions while on plane.
