Title: Sorry for the 2 minutes of unannounced maintenance downtime
Post by: djkimmel on October 24, 2013, 08:43:33 PM
Sorry for the 2 minutes of unannounced maintenance downtime right in the middle of your Thursday evening. I got an urgent security upgrade notice and after seeing a critical forum software bug in some vbulletin forums had been used to hack somewhere between 35,000 and 45,000 forums of that brand in the past day or so I figured I better do this upgrade immediately.

I don't run vbulletin on here (GreatLakesBass.com forum uses SMF - Simple Machines Forum) but it's too weird a coincidence to have an urgent ugrade notice announced to risk this website and your viewing pleasure! There's some pretty major website forums down today because of these big botnet hacking attacks against the other forum software. What a mess for them...

I did a file and database check just for the heck of it and see no signs of anything other than the normal chinese, ukrainian, russian, romanian and similar failed attack attempts that entertain me day and night... ;D

Actually... today it appears to be more egyptians, thailanders, a couple infected servers in the uk and those pesky poles... sheesh. If everyone took up fishing (and maybe they blocked 13 year old boys from the Internet ;D) there'd probably a lot less computer hackers :D
