Title: Would this work?
Post by: Baybass on September 10, 2011, 02:13:21 AM
Been thinking about this and wanted to get some thoughts as to if this would work and if so get a temp on interest.  I am not even sure if there is not a tourney like this going on.

Been thinking about a one on one tx series kinda like the March madness BB concept.  If you had a minimum of 16 boats sign up and buy in would be $150 for the entire year, break those 16 boats into brackets so in the first tx each of the 16 would fish against one other guy, the winner moves on and the looser would come back as co-angler for the next tx, then 8 fish head to head and winners move on to final 4, the winner co-angler would move on,  after the final fish off to determine the winner then the boater in second place would fish one more against the winning co-angler and that would determine who comes in second.  Split the $150 up so $100 would go to overall winner and $50 would go to second.  So ,to win $1600 you would only have to beat 5 guys and second would get $800.  Everyone would at least fish the first two tourneys out of 5 in the series.  thoughts?

Maybe for a club format

My thoughts are
In fishing, fishing agianst 5 or 16 boats only matters on the payout
There's no advantage fishing agianst less boats

And if I'm paying in
I'm the idiot in front not the co angler

So, I'm out

i think it sounds kind of cool, change can be good.

i am planning to start a small Saginaw River weeknight tournament circuit for next summer if your interested Brad...small entry fees, short tournaments just a good time with some laid back guys but great competition.  Very informal...

Interesting concept, it could work, since you would only need a dozen participants or so.  You will have some bugs to work out, but it could work.

I too, think it looks like a fun format. Something different. There are enough regular tournaments to satisfy anyone who leans in that direction. Something different always shakes the cobwebs a bit. Just like Joe Thomas' show has done, and maybe what the new Major League of Bass Fishing will do.

I think it would work amongst a group of guys who know and used to fishing each other but don't fish ton of circuits or tournament all over; OR bump up the entry fee to something a little more serious and try to attract some anglers who would want something that it is more of a head-to-head against some good competition for a big prize?

Thanks for the responses,  I will give some ore thoughts and see if I can set something up for next year.  What do youmguys think about all tx on same lake or should beon different lakes?  Blake, keep in touch about your Saginaw river Tx for next year.  I am in for next year,  you know how close I am to the river..

If you go with the local guys who all know and our used to each other you might get away okay with all on the same, or if you go bigger and make it several days in a row. Otherwise, I think it is better to be on a variety of dissimilar waters.

Of course, my personal bias is I get bored easy and like that challenge of different waters.

I was in a club one year long ago that did somethign cool for the end of the year deal.  We fished for 2 hours, had a weigh in and coffee/juice/donuts.  Fished two more hours, had a weigh in and grilled dogs/burgers etc.  Fished 2 more hours, had a weigh in and I can't remember what then went home.

You could do something along those lines and do it all in one day if you wanted.
